1736 Mexico 8 Reales Hollandia Shipwreck NGC XF Detail Silver Coin Philip V MoMF

Description

This is a 1736-Mo MF (Mexico) 8 Reales "Pillars & Globes" Silver Coin from the 1743 Hollandia Shipwreck NGC XF Details "Sea Salvaged" (Extra Fine Details). The first two images are provided by the NGC Photography Team and can be downloaded. The Dutch East Indiaman Ship "Hollandia" sunk off the Isles of Scilly, England, carrying large quantities of silver pillar dollars and some silver cobs. This is a great example of shipwreck history with a large crown sized coin recovered from the wreckage. The coin has some obvious signs of saltwater effect and a mixture of darker patches and yellow tone. The planchet looks a tad bit smaller and some of the edge lettering is difficult to make out due to the shipwreck effect. The date is visible, but can be hard to see unless it is angled right and under decent lighting.
This coin comes in the NGC plastic slab with the special blue "Shipwreck Certification" label. A copy of the Certificate of Authenticity can be made, but it is a generic COA without pictures of the coin from Rex Cowan.
